Our Approach
This exciting landmark refurbishment transformed a former Victorian paper mill into the iconic new flagship home of Bombay Sapphire, delivering the new Distillery and Process Buildings at Laverstoke Mill.
This complex five-acre site included Grade II listed buildings and an area of Special Scientific Interest, so we conducted a series of local and national consultations before beginning carefully considered demolition work.
Highlights include three still houses that accommodate traditional copper stills, and two stunning glasshouses feature interactive enclosures accommodating a unique range of 10 botanicals featured in the distillery process.
We worked meticulously with key stakeholders to ensure the project was designed to be as sustainable and successful as possible. This included recycling roof tiles and bricks and repurposing 80% of the original building. By-products from the gin distillation process are used as a fuel source.
The project makes full use of sustainable approaches including biomass boilers, solar generation and a hydroelectric turbine.
The project cut carbon emissions by >38% and became the first ever distillery to be awarded BREEAM Outstanding.
