Our Approach

CPW designed the MEP building services for JCB’s brand new bespoke 450,600ft2 production facility which is capable of producing as much as 8,000 excavators a year.

This heavy products plant is set in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire and is the only facility in the UK which produces large tracked and wheeled excavators from 7 to 46 tonnes.

In addition to the key challenges of the build itself, the project was placed on a fast track programme, allowing only 18 months from start of design to practical completion.

The plant itself includes a range of facilities such as assembly areas, fabrication and welding areas, machining centres that improve control over component quality, and clean rooms to prevent contamination when assembling hydraulic components. Such facilities make the plant one of the most advanced excavator plants in the world.

Rooflight coverage was increased to 25% of the roof to take full advantage of daylight saving for most of the working day.
