CPW’s GRESB Results: Putting Our Own ESG Performance to the Test

This year CPW completed its first annual assessment of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance for our Solihull Head Quarters under the international standard, GRESB. Aimee Delaney and Sophia Cressey, Sustainability Consultants at CPW, led the assessment and now give us an insight into what the assessment entails and how CPW’s performance stacks up.

What is GRESB?

Since 2009, GRESB has become a leading ESG benchmark for real estate and infrastructure. It offers a standardised framework to assess sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.

After completing an assessment, you receive a GRESB Score which allows you to compare your ESG performance with other buildings to understand how you compare with like-minded companies.

What does a GRESB Assessment cover?

The assessment covers a wide range of sustainability and governance topics, such as:

  • ESG objectives

  • ESG policies

  • Energy consumption

  • Water consumption

  • Greenhouse gas emissions

  • Waste management

  • Employee health & wellbeing

  • Social responsibility practices

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Why is it important to measure ESG performance?

At CPW, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We want to ensure that this extends to the buildings we work in and our practices, as well as the projects we deliver.

But striving to do good, isn’t enough. A robust and transparent framework is necessary to help us understand what we’re doing well and what we could be doing better. The more companies that take part, the better of an understanding we will have on the sustainability landscape.

This will help us all to better benchmark our performance, identify areas for improvement and set clear and achievable targets. This can help us all make sound business decisions based on data.

Measuring ESG performance is also great for improving a company’s reputation. Being transparent about your sustainability successes and goals will build trust and highlight the importance you place on social responsibility.

In the wider real estate sector, many investors are now targeting ESG-focused initiatives. So having an easy to understand and compare ESG performance score may help you find investment.

CPW’s ESG performance

We are pleased to report that CPW has exceeded the GRESB average in areas including Energy Consumption, GHG emissions, Water Consumption and Waste Management with a total score of 27.7/32.

There were many other areas in which CPW achieved the highest available score including policies on environmental and social issues, employee health and wellbeing, employee training, and employee safety.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in collating all information that was needed for the assessment! We will be using these GRESB results to further improve our internal ESG strategies going forward including reviewing the results of our recent staff survey.
