London Road Fire Station

Client: Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue

Our Approach

Strategically located on one of the foremost arterial routes into Nottingham, CPW were appointed to the architect led design team responsible for delivering this new central fire station.

The site is located in an area undergoing significant change, therefore the form and building fabric were designed to be attractive and modern, whilst maintaining the use of historical materials.

Accommodating three fire engines at any one time, plus necessary support facilities (e.g. office space and an emergency control facility), the London Road Fire Station has been warmly received by the Client and its local community.

Regarded as being more cost and environmentally efficient than its predecessor, the station is seen as a real benchmark in Blue Light building design and an exemplar in how to re-energise crucial emergency facilities.

The Client wanted their new station to be highly environmentally friendly; CPW proposed a number of sustainable design solutions. Those fulfilled included the installation of photovoltaics to the roof and a connection to the district heating system.

These measures exceed the local authorities requirement for 10% of the building’s energy demand to come from renewable sources.
