Mathematical Sciences Building
Client: University of Warwick
Our Approach
CPW developed a prestigious new landmark building for the University of Warwick’s Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science departments.
The building comprises around 6,000m² of room for teaching, office space, and areas for studying in an environment built to nurture mathematical brilliance.
The building features high thermal mass and exposed soffits to regulate internal temperatures, with slab cooling to occupied spaces to pre-cool the structure on hot days. The intelligent shading and high performance glazing further help to moderate internal summertime temperatures.
Low-carbon heating is ensured by the airtight building envelope, mixed mode ventilation with heat recovery, and useful winter solar gain.
The heat accumulating in each atrium is recycled via high efficiency heat exchangers and used to pre-heat the cold intake air to further improve efficiency.
The building has been carefully modelled and specified and is a standard bearer for passive, intrinsically low- energy, low carbon design.
Not only did this project meet the University’s environmental standards, but it also achieved the following as a result of our careful commitment to sustainability:
EPC A Energy Rating
BREEAM Excellent rating
“CPW have demonstrated a commitment and level of technical support which goes above the contractual requirements and are a valued MEP consultant and partner. I would strongly recommend CPW, based on their capabilities and my experiences at the University of Warwick.”
