CPW Paddles for a Cause at the 2024 Dragon Boat Race

Last Friday, CPW had the honour of participating in the 2024 Dragon Boat Race held at The Mailbox in Birmingham. The event spanned across two days, bringing together companies from across the region, all united by a shared goal: supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

A Day of Team Spirit and Competition

Birmingham Children’s Hospital charity team organised the event, which was generously sponsored by BSN Group and Syntegral. Companies from a range of sectors participated alongside CPW, including Arup, CBRE UK, HSBC, and DLA Piper.

The atmosphere was electric, with crowds forming across The Cube bridge and along the sides of the canal. Teams sported colourful company t-shirts and fancy dress, appearing as fruit and various animals, with one opposing team member donning an inflatable rhino suit. Despite the extravagant costumes, the teams were highly competitive, the stakes were high, and everyone had their eyes on first place.

The fierce competition saw 26 teams battling it out on day one of the event, with our CPW team rising to the challenge. Showcasing solid teamwork and determination, they secured a commendable 13th place, demonstrating exceptional effort in the third round and breaking their own record, with a time of 1 minute and 7 seconds.

Significant Fundraising Achievement

The latest reports indicate that the event has collectively raised an estimated £250,000 for the charity, with contributions still pouring in. CPW is proud to have contributed £2,955 to the collective total through generous sponsorships and donations.

All funds raised go directly to supporting the brave children and their families at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, who rely on the exceptional care provided by the dedicated staff and teams. The hospital’s tireless commitment to offering crucial medical services ensures that the most vulnerable receive the care they need.

At CPW, we are proud to support this mission and to be a part of making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who rely on these vital services.

Our Commitment to Community and Charity

Our participation in events such as the 2024 Dragon Boat Race is part of our broader commitment to community engagement and charitable giving.

Speaking about the day, our Associate Director, Paul Titmus shared: "The Dragon Boat Race was an incredible experience for the whole team. Participating in such a lively and spirited event while supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital was truly rewarding, especially as it’s a charity that is close to our hearts. Seeing everyone come together and knowing that our efforts contribute to the wellbeing of children in need makes all the hard work worthwhile."

We extend our heartfelt thanks to those whose support was instrumental in making this event a success. We also appreciate the tireless efforts of the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust charity team for organising such a fantastic day. Their dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly and allowed all participants to focus on solely the race and cause.

Lastly, our gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed through sponsorships and donations. Your generosity is making a significant impact and helping to create a brighter future for many children.

Together, we can continue to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital and make a positive impact on our community. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide essential care and support to children and families in need.
