CPW’s Fight for
Net Zero Carbon

Our Mission

Climate change is, without a doubt, the greatest challenge we face in these times. When it comes to cutting carbon, current commercial building standards
don’t go far enough.

We are on a mission to deliver Zero Carbon buildings that help sustain better lives for many generations to come.

However, in order to deliver upon this mission, we need the backing of ambitious, forward-thinking organisations, who understand the role we all need to play in reducing carbon emissions and achieving Net Zero Carbon.

What Is Net Zero Carbon?

Net Zero refers to balancing the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) released with the amount removed from the atmosphere. Meaning we take out as much as we put in.

To slow the overheating of our planet, it’s vital that humans redress this balance. We are at a crucial juncture in history and the time to act is now.

The 2015 Paris Agreement set a global goal to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050.

This is a legal requirement ratified by the UK Government, but fundamentally, it is our moral duty to help put things right, with Net Zero targets keeping global warming below 1.5°C and reducing environmental damage.

Based on current emissions, the world is likely to hit between 2.7°C and 3.1°C of warming by 2100.

 The Built Environment

As specialists in delivering Building Services Engineering for over 40 years, we have a huge responsibility to society and the planet to practice sustainability. Our industry is well publicised as a massive contributor to emissions. But we have the tools available to change this.

The built environment contributes nearly 40% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions.

By working together, we can combat emissions and meet sustainability targets.

Truly Sustainable Solutions

CPW are proud to specialise in designing and integrating a full range of energy solutions into new and existing buildings.

We use innovative and contemporary engineering techniques that deliver cutting edge, sustainable solutions, which are not only energy efficient but are also financially and environmentally sustainable for our clients.

University of Leicester George Davies Centre

University of Leicester George Davies Centre

CPW designed The University of Leicester's pioneering new £42m facility for their College of Medicine, as well as accommodation for their Biological Sciences and Psychology departments, housing over 2,350 students and staff.

The frequency of weather-related disasters has increased by 46% from 2007-2016 (compared to the 1990s) as a result of
climate change.

The Greenhouse Effect

A greenhouse gas is any gaseous compound in the atmosphere that is capable of absorbing infrared radiation, thereby trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere.

The more greenhouse gases we release into the atmosphere, the harder it is for heat to escape the earth’s atmosphere, resulting in increased global temperatures.

There’s more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere now than at any time in human history.

Nearly doubling atmospheric concentration levels when compared to before the industrial revolution.

The Devastating Effects of Climate Change

Hurricanes and other storms are likely to become more frequent and deadly

Ecosystems will continue to change: many species won’t be able to adapt and could become extinct

Sea levels are expected to rise between 26 and 82 centimetres by the end of the century

Some diseases, such as mosquito-borne malaria, will become more widespread

Floods and droughts will become far more common

Less freshwater will be available due to droughts and glacial melting, with glaciers holding 3/4 of the world’s freshwater

The continued rise in global temperatures, caused by greenhouse emissions, will have a hugely damaging effect on ecosystems and communities around the globe if we don’t fight back.

Bombay-Sapphire-distillery

Bombay Sapphire Flagship

CPW were responsible for an exciting landmark refurbishment to transform a former Victorian paper mill into the iconic new flagship home of Bombay Sapphire, delivering the new Bombay Sapphire Distillery and Process Buildings at Laverstoke Mill.

CPW minimises the impact buildings have on the world, whilst maximising the enjoyment people get from them.

For over four decades, we have delivered energy conservation for our clients so that they experience and benefit from operationally low carbon buildings, but we are at a pivotal moment in time. We can and must embrace the significant step change by providing the stewardship and guidance to drive Whole Life Carbon management and advise clients where and how we must drive these mandatory and priority demands for True Net Zero Carbon. We have the expertise and proven capability that allows us to continue with our professional services in this respect, ultimately ‘Reverse Engineering’ the Paris Agreement so that we remain on target.

Now, as ever, we are determined to practice sustainability and improve industry standards.

Let’s work together and help achieve Net Zero Carbon goals.
