Becoming a CPW apprentice: Chloe Marshall

With apprenticeship roles currently on offer across our UK offices, we sat down with one of our current apprentices, Chloe Marshall, to hear more about her experience of the CPW apprenticeship scheme so far.

What is your role and what does it involve?

“I am a trainee electrical design engineer in the Bristol office. My role involves using a range of software (like AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech & Dialux) to help model electrical services within a building, either in 2D or 3D, and for lighting or cable calculations.”

What led you to apply for an apprenticeship?

“The idea of being able to work and learn at the same time instead of full-time study really interested me.

“I find it a lot more effective to be able to learn from senior members of the company with years of experience and knowledge. It’s so helpful being able to ask any questions as they appear, as well as covering topics taught on the college course. Being paid to work alongside college is a bonus!

“It’s great to have in-work, industry experience for my qualifications.”

What attracted you to CPW?

“I was really drawn to the nature of the company. I like the family-style where everybody looks after each other, as well as the push for sustainable electrical engineering. It’s important that we’re designing for a better future.

“The training programme really stood out as well and it seemed like there would be good opportunities to develop and learn.”

What's the best thing about being an apprentice at CPW?

“I think it’s the easy and constant support you have from your colleagues. It’s also great to have a good mentor who looks after you. I never feel silly about asking questions and there is always someone willing to help you or to teach you something new. I am continuously learning from everyone around me.”

What would you say to someone thinking about joining CPW?

“I would say 100% go for it. The company is a good place to work, with great support from senior staff as well as support from the other trainees that join at same time. You are able to learn together and help each other.”

Our apprenticeship scheme is now open! Visit our apprenticeships page to find out more and apply.
